Here we would like to give a review of the projects and events of 2023 on the topic of INDUSTRIAL CULTURE, which were realised with regard to the European Capital of Culture 2024!
THEMED GUIDED TOURS
in the museums of the Traunsee-Almtal region
Museums and businesses in the region offer guided tours on the theme of industrial culture for interested visitors.
These tours take place from mid-January to the end of April - also available for groups!

3RD LONG NIGHT OF INDUSTRIAL CULTURE
A COMPLETE SUCCESS
Around 4,000 visitors were on the move in the Traunsee-Almtal region on Thursday, 7 September 2023 in beautiful autumn weather and gained exciting insights into industrial life. Many well-known companies & museums opened their doors to young and old for the 3rd time.

The Salzkammergut has many treasures to offer.
Water, salt, wood - all of them valuable.
But by far the most valuable are the many
who have created such a unique industrial culture in this region.

SALT PANS AT LAKE TRAUNSEE
The salt from Hallstatt was transported downstream via the upper Traun using salt pans. Mainly 30 metre long six- or seven-oared barges were used. They had around 12,000 casks of salt on board. That was around 7.2 tonnes, which were transported by the 6-man crew via the dangerous waterway on the Traun. Since 2023, the Traunsee-Almtal Tourism Association has been in possession of a salt barge, which is used for events and themed tours.
