The Bartlhaus is the only type museum in Austria with an attached printing workshop.
The Bartlhaus in Pettenbach is the only Austrian museum dedicated to the art of writing in its various forms. Changing exhibitions show works by Austrian and international calligraphy artists and thematic compilations of bookplates. Permanent exhibitions invite you to get to know the work of the house's founding fathers. The attached printing workshop houses unique printing presses and printing machines, all of which are fully functional and in use during printing demonstrations. The Pettenbach local history museum is also housed in the Bartlhaus. Calligraphy courses take place regularly in the scriptorium.
The Bartlhaus is open to its visitors from May to October
Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m
Saturday 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m

SUMMER OPENING HOURS:
From 14 July to 06 August 2025, the Bartlhaus will also be open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 15:00.

Accessibility / arrivalHow to get to the Bartlhaus in Pettenbach im Almtal:
We recommend that you travel by public transport!
by train:
from Wels station, take the Almtalbahn (line 153) in the direction of Grünau im Almtal to Pettenbach station,
numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) to Linz/Vienna or Salzburg and to Passau (line 150).
The train station is only a 5-minute walk away!
By bus:
OÖVV bus lines 456 Kirchdorf/Kr. - Steinbach am Ziehberg - Pettenbach and 481 Kirchdorf/Kr. - Inzersdorf - Pettenbach - Lederau - Eggenberg - Vorchdorf, both bus stops Pettenbach Bahnhofstraße
With the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service Route 70 coming from Vorchdorf or Scharnstein, please call the cab office at least 1 hour in advance on 050-422 422 or order online at www.salzkammergutshuttle.at .
Bike & Hike, arrival by bike:
Coming from Wels or Linz on the R 11 Almtalradweg via Pettenbach to Viechtwang. Or via the R 4 Traunradweg or R6 Römerradweg, or coming from Passau via Vöcklabruck and Schwanenstadt to Lambach, via the Traunkraftwerk Lambach and to Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting in the direction of Vorchdorf Einsiedling. Continue via the short cycle connection on the R 13 Traunviertlerradweg to R 11 Almtalradweg to Pettenbach.
Also the cycle connection on the Traunvierteltour from Gmunden via St. Konrad and Scharnstein to Pettenbach.
- Use the signposting for the everyday cycle paths from the regional cycle paths to the town center.
By car:
