FOR MANY CENTURIES, THE TRAUN WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT TRANSPORT ROUTE FOR HALLSTATT SALT

As the Traun was much shallower from Stadl than above (the Traun flowed through the Welser Heide in a wide bed with many side arms), the cargo of the Gmunden salt ships had to be transferred to a larger number of barges here.
With over 200 salt barges stationed here (each approx. 30 m long), Stadl was the most important shipping station on the entire Traun. In order to protect the salt from the rain during reloading, the salt was transhipped in the 14 barns that stood in the Traun and gave the town its name.
The biggest obstacle to salt shipping on the Traun was the Traun Falls between Gmunden and Stadl, which was circumnavigated by a navigable canal (built in 1552).
In the Schiffleutmuseum, which was renovated and expanded in 2018, you will find, among other things, a vivid, five-metre-long model of the navigable canal at the Traunfall, a 4m2 model of the shipping village of Stadl with its salt barns in the Traun, many ship models and items of equipment used by the boatmen.

MUSIC - LORBER MUSI

The Lorber Musi is a small, fine family band consisting of Isabella and Josef Lorber.
We play the violin and Styrian harmonica.
We mainly play traditional folk music, but also like to play a little Viennese and more modern pieces.
