The commissioning of an industrial sawmill in Steyrermühl in the 1980s caused a stir in the industry throughout Austria. This bold step by the owners at the time was the basis for the successful further development of business activities in Steyrermühl and secured the industrial location as an employer in the long term. Since its foundation in 1982, the production capacity has constantly increased and the production technology has been continuously developed. As a result, the sawmill has developed from a small timber sawmill into a supplier with a wide range of dimensions and timber types and is now one of the largest sawn timber producers in Austria.

Today, Steyrermühl Sägewerksgesellschaft m.b.H. Nfg. KG is managed as a subsidiary of UPM-Kymmene Austria GmbH. Around 80 employees produce up to 400,000 cubic metres of sawn timber annually at the Steyrermühl site and sell the products in Central Europe, northern Africa and Japan.
From 2024, the sawmill in the heart of the Salzkammergut will continue to operate as a Heinzel Group company.
