WHERE INDUSTRY AND CULTURE MEET. EXPERIENCE HISTORY
The Ebensee Museum itself has existed since 1974, but the building in which it is housed has been around since 1604. "The history of our home town is inextricably linked to the history of salt," says Franz Gillesberger, historian and former museum director. But just as any food is only good if it contains salt, life also needs culture. It is not for nothing that UNESCO has recognised the Ebensee Glöcklerlauf, the Fetzenzug, the Singvogelfang and the nativity scenes as intangible world cultural heritage - all of which are also represented in the Ebensee Museum.
A very special exhibition highlight is probably the tooth of a pliosaur, which was discovered at the Farnaugupf in Ebensee. Around 132 million years ago, the pliosaur made the sea (where the Salzkammergut lies today) unsafe.
MUSIC - DUO SCHECK
Sisters Theresa and Magdalena Scheck from Ebensee discovered their passion and love for music as children. With a lot of (fingertip) feeling, they elicit harmonious and delicate (string) sounds from their instruments. Inspired by the melodies of Alpine folk music, they also write down their own arrangements and musical ideas, which liven up their programme in different line-ups.
