History and Ceramic in the K-Hof.

In the 14 wheelchair accessible exhibition rooms covering an area of 2000 m2, the K-Hof offers a chronological cross section of the history of Gmunden and the Traunsee district from the geological beginnings to the 21st century. The ceramic theme, with more than 1000 exhibits, runs like a thread through all the showrooms.
Ever changing special exhibition with the themes:
History, ceramic and Christmas cribs

Natural and cultural history in the K-Hof.
The natural surroundings and the mineral resources at the Traunsee influenced the cultural development of the people. Salt dominated the economy of the town for centuries. “Traunsee Marble” is considered a valuable building material even today. Clay is the raw material for the production of “Gmundner Keramik”. World famous fossils from the “Gschliefgraben” are witnesses to the varied geological history. The river
Traun and the lake Traunsee encouraged the growth of transport and tourism. The opportunity to cut and polish stones as well as guided
tours along the “Gmundner Jahrtausendweg” (Millenium Path) are available for groups by appointment only.

History of sanitary ware in the K-Hof.
This worldwide unique museum of historical sanitary ware presents itself as a historico-cultural contribution to the story of ceramic for domestic use. It shows not only the production of ceramic sanitary ware but also the change in the hygiene standards and tells an interesting story about the so called “smallest room”. Although the invention of the modern water closet dates back to the end of the 16th century, it took a long time for it to replace the household commodes and bed pans.

Permanent exhibition - Keramik Lifestyle Schaudepot The Kammerhof Museum in Gmunden displays its extensive collection of ceramic artworks and handcrafted objects in a special exhibition and storage room. A visit to this display depot is like a walk through the varied history of 20th century ceramic art and decoration. Visitors can discover rarely or never seen treasures from all over the world that were created during the famous Kurt Ohnsorg Symposia in the 1960s. Works by Anton Raidel and Franz-Joseph Altenburg, who continue this legacy today, are also on display. Many household and decorative objects from local manufacturers such as Reisenbichler, Pesendorfer, Födinger, Schleiß and Gmundner Keramik are also on display.
